Grant Overview

Cooperative business development funding supports the creation and strengthening of cooperative business models in lower-income regions. This funding covers technical assistance, business planning, and operational support for cooperatives. Excludes direct financing for cooperative establishment or general business operations. Cooperative business development funding is crucial for fostering community-led economic growth and removing barriers to entrepreneurship. By providing resources and technical assistance, this funding enables cooperatives to build capacity and achieve long-term sustainability. Successful cooperatives have been shown to increase business ownership rates and create local jobs. For instance, a cooperative grocery store in a low-income neighborhood not only provides employment opportunities but also increases access to fresh produce. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate a clear understanding of cooperative business models and a commitment to community-led economic development. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and cooperative development organizations. Alignment with community economic development goals is critical; applicants must demonstrate how their proposed project aligns with regional economic development strategies. ## Cooperative Business Model Requirements Cooperative business models require a unique set of skills and knowledge, including business planning, financial management, and member engagement. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in these areas and a commitment to building a strong, member-driven cooperative. ## Measuring Success Success will be measured through increased business ownership rates and local job creation. Applicants must demonstrate a clear plan for evaluating and reporting on these outcomes.
